Karie, I like your show and like you, but today you sounded a little smug in defense of McCain. Yes, the man had it coming for being overly agitated, but McCain, a graduate of Annapolis was out of line in calling the guy a jerk. Maybe Christie can get away with this type of response because he's from New Joisey, but even he is out of line sometimes. As someone who has worked for US immigration in some capacity, McCain knows full well immigration policies never REALLY solve the problem by closing loopholes and taking away the benefits that entice UA's to come here.

Most Americans DO NOT approve of another amnesty. Change birthright citizenship; eliminate anchor babies. Limit the relatives legal residents and citizens can petition for, i.e. spouses and children ONLY. If relatives overstay their visas their family is responsible. Finally, change the law to state that if anyone is caught here illegally, they can NEVER apply for legal residence. Lack of enforcement makes a mockery of everything the US stands for, and people who follow rules are SICK and TIRED of the disrespect.

I'm surprised you axed my response regarding changes to the immigration law. I am I'm an Hispanic and those suggestions are valid ways to reduce legal immigration and remove enticements for people to illegally immigrate. ".4 million Mexicans waiting to legally immigrate into U.S. but only 65,600 were allowed in last year. Is it fair to keep rewarding those who came illegally because "they are here"? My comment in no way was intended as a disparagement of any immigrant .

I think that we also need to enact and strictly enforce harsher penalaties for employers who knowingly hire Illegal tresspassers. If it were to become too riskey for employers to hire them, there wouldn't be any jobs for them here, and if there were no other loopholes or benifits, most undocumented tresspassers would simply self deport. Those wo stay would be mostly the drug dealers and other criminals.
