Three students suspended after posting teacher’s mugshot online

Three Tennessee students were suspended after a mugshot of their teacher circulated throughout social media, DailyMail.com reported.
Tiffany Jackson, an eighth-grade teacher at Highland Oaks Middle School, was arrested late last week for driving with an invalid license. When her students caught wind of the incident, they posted her mugshot to Instagram, where it circulated around the school.
School officials soon became aware of the circulated image and suspended three of the students for three days.
Shanna Johnson, the mother of one of the suspended students, said her son apologized to Jackson and felt it was unfair that her son was singled out.
“My son went to her and talked to her to make her feel better and explained how he deleted it,” Johnson said in an interview with WMC Action News.
The school suspended the students citing an “inappropriate use of electronic media,” before overturning the decision following a backlash.
Johnson said her son, who re-posted the photo, should not have gotten punished over the incident.
“He still got punished and that’s what makes me upset,” Johnson said. “It’s public information, put it that way.”
While Highland Oaks’ Cell Phone Policy bans students from using a mobile phone during the school day, it is unknown whether or not the students used their phones during school to post the mugshot.
