This is the story that YOU wanted to hear us talk about! It received 50 percent of the vote in our Radioactive poll!

Perhaps you’re excited for the television adaptation of the 1995 film “12 Monkeys,” which starred Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt.

Well, there’s a hi-tech way you can enhance the experience.

Variety reports that the cable network Syfy has teamed up with Philips to alter the lighting effects in a room according to the action on a TV screen.

Television viewers will have to own Philips Hue lightbulbs and download an app on their tablet or smartphone to make the lighting effects work.

When combined, the app will detect audio cues from “12 Monkeys” and translate them into ambient lighting effects designed to engage viewers in an entirely unique way.

It’s not the first time Syfy and Philips have offered an interactive viewing experience. The made-for-TV movie “Sharknado 2” paired with Philips Hue bulbs to adjust the lighting according to the film’s soundtrack.

Philips reportedly has more than 200 third-party applications developed for Hue. The Hue products aren’t cheap, as one bulb runs approximately $60.

“12 Monkeys” debuts Friday, Jan. 16. Thirteen episodes are scheduled for the series’ first season.
