Doctors are reportedly turning down healthcare that is approved by the Affordable Care Act.
According to Fox Business News, small business owner Butch Yamali said he enrolled about 60 employees in new healthcare as required by the ACA. When an employee went in Jan. 1 for a post-surgery appointment, they were told they no longer had health insurance.
“We did this all through the New York small business exchange, they said everything would be up and running by the first of the year,” Yamali said. “And the worst part is that these policies weren’t originally set to expire until March.”
Critics of the healthcare law said multiple enforcement dates would create confusion in the industry. Yamali agreed, saying that he’s been told to ask doctors to bill him and then file for reimbursement.
“About a dozen different employees have come to me, they are angry, and are asking ‘Why didn’t you pay for our insurance? Why don’t we have coverage?” he says. “It’s embarrassing, I have guys on my staff with babies, and they have no insurance.”
Health officials have not responded to a request for comment from Fox.
