Raven: Nevermore

While I was watching the Arizona Cardinals’ Monday night win over the San Diego Chargers, I found that even in as tight a game as it was, I was distracted every time one of the players was hit hard and landed on the turf.
For a fleeting second my mind substituted Janay Rice lying motionless on the floor of an Atlantic City elevator, sucker-punched by Ray Rice, now her husband, former running back for the Baltimore Ravens.
I said former running back because, as even non-sports fans know, he’s not currently in the league. Monday, the NFL’s front office said, “The Baltimore Ravens terminated the contract of Ray Rice this afternoon.”
Not to be out-nobled, the league took action with this statement: “Roger Goodell has announced that based on new video evidence that became available today, he has indefinitely suspended Ray Rice.”
Gee, that’s a little tougher than when he just saw the video of one of his players dragging an unconscious woman out of the same elevator.
Is it conceivable that TMZ could have had a video that the NFL hadn’t seen? If the league did know, Commissioner Roger Goodell deserves to be locked in an elevator with Rice.
I’m Pat McMahon.
