Well that's something you don't see every day.

A meteor crashed down in eastern Russia, and we are lucky enough that someone was able to catch it on video.

Health officials say nearly 1,000 people have sought help for injuries caused by the meteor that exploded in the sky, blasting out countless windows.

The Russian Academy of Sciences said the meteor- estimated to be about 10 tons- entered the Earth's atmosphere going at least 54,000 kph (33,000 mph). It shattered about 30-50 kilometers (18-32 miles) above the ground, releasing several kilotons of energy above the Ural Mountains.

You can read more on the story here.

This is a compilation of videos that caught or saw the meteor crashing towards earth. The far below video is from a camera close to where it exploded and is extremely loud.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

    This is frickin amazing!
I've never heard of something like this happening in real life in the 30 years of my existence. That blast sounded pretty gnarly...something like that could have done some real damage if it happened somewhere like New York. Crazy!!!

Those of us old enough to remember
when supersonic flight used to take place over the U.S. well recall the rattling and occasional broken windows that would result from the passage of fast moving military craft.

THINK WHAT IF THIS WAS LARGER
The theory is that this is what caused the ICE Age. The extinction of dinosaurs. A huge meteor hit earth, dirt in the air darken the sky killing many living things at that time that needed sunlight. Some things in the oceans made it through.

More then likely this was a piece that broke off of the larger asteroid that is to passed the earth today at about 17,000 miles up from the earth. Hopefully there will be no more pieces. Be thankful it is far enough out that it isn't going to be pulled into our atmosphere. I do believe we would have real major problem if one hit the size of this asteroid which is the size of 2 football field just barely passed us by.

Lucky for us all that it looks like we'll miss this time becoming yet another casualty of extinction.
