Six Arizona businesses were on a list of the nation's most successful companies, one less than 2011.

According to Phoenix Business Journal, the company that dropped off the list was Apollo Group Inc., who ranked 452 last year.

The highest-ranking company in Arizona is Avnet Inc., with a revenue of $26.5 billion -- $669 million in profit.

The other Arizona companies on the list were Freeport McMoran Copper and Gold, US Airways Group Inc., Republic Services Inc. and PetSmart Inc.

Overall, oil giant Exxon Mobile ranked first, followed by Wal-Mart, with revenues of $453 billion and $447 billion, respectively, in 2011.
