PHOENIX - The sponsor of Arizona legislation to allow guns on college and university campuses says he doesn't know what its fate will be.

Sen. Ron Gould says it's ``approaching the 11th hour,'' for the bill to emerge from the Senate, where it has been stalled, but work is still being done to encourage lawmakers to support it.

The Republican from Lake Havasu City wants to allow gun owners with concealed-carry permits to bring their firearms on campus. Colleges and universities could only ban guns if they provide secure storage lockers.

Gould commented Wednesday as he said he opposes another lawmaker's proposal to allow university and college faculty to carry guns on campus.

Gould says he wants a broader change than just giving faculty the right to carry.

The reason guns are such a wild card
is because of the idiots who think they are cool toys for show and tell. The majority of us who own one recognize when the majority of society can carry one without being stupid the odds of being vicitimized by those with ill-intent are significantly reduced.

I am willing to be that of the
legally purchased or procured firearms over 90% are used by responsible persons. There is a couple of factors that people don't normally address when they talk about the "rise" in gun accidents. The number of firearms being produced and sold and/or traded in the US increasing significantly and a lot more people are getting into shooting. The problem is that a portion of those people weren't handed down the lessons in safety and responsibility from grandpa or dad and don't take a basic gun safety class. Add to that the 24/7 news cycle that produces so much fluff and perceptions are skewed.
