PHOENIX - Sheriff Joe Arpaio endorsed Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry. And now that he's suspended his president campaign, Arpaio says America's loss is Texas's gain.

"I really have a lot of respect for him. I think it's a big loss to our country," he said. "But that's the way politics is and he'll still be the governor of Texas."

Arpaio supported Mitt Romney during the 2008 presidential race but hasn't decided if he will endorse Romney again.

The sheriff says Perry got off to a bad start, but liked his stance on the border issue.

    LOL!!!
It looks like Arpaio's endorsement is still the "Kiss of Death". I'll never understand the blind devotion given to America's Most Successful Conman.

    Leave it to
Sheriff Joe to back a horse that barely got out of the gate. Just one more example of how out of touch with reality the sheriff is!

    Arpaio's endorsement means nothing
On either the local or national stage. Why candidates take the political risk of standing shoulder to shoulder with this comic book figure and expecting respect is beyond me. There's no real vote potential there. Likely Perry will remember that he feels differently about immigration issues back in Texas than he expressed as a presidential candidate in Iowa. He's facing Texas audiences now and looking for Texan votes. Just one more wannabe in the long list of Arpaio endorsed losers.
