Teen charged with taking $25K, giving classmates $100 bills

May 29, 2015, 3:25 PM

MEDINA, Ohio (AP) — A 13-year-old Ohio boy accused of stealing $25,000 from his 83-year-old grandfather and handing out $100 bills to his middle school classmates has been charged as a juvenile.

The Medina (meh-DY’-nuh) Gazette (http://bit.ly/1KCHh6y ) reports the boy was charged with delinquency by way of theft from the elderly.

Authorities say the boy gave away thousands of dollars last month before schools officials discovered what was happening. Investigators recovered some of the money, and some already had been spent.

The newspaper says a teenage friend also faces a delinquency count related to receiving stolen property after police determined he received cash and gave it to his grandparents, who took the teens on a shopping spree.

The county prosecutor says those grandparents haven’t been charged.

It’s not clear if the boys have attorneys.
