(AP) - BEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD: MicroZap say it has developed technology that allows bread to stay mold-free for 60 days, eliminating the need for preservatives and reducing food waste.
WHAT'S KNEADED: The bread is bombarded with microwaves for about 10 seconds, which kills mold spores. It does not prevent the bread from turning stale.
NO NUKES: Microwaving bread is not the same as irradiation- which kills food pathogens- as no gamma rays are used. The government has approved irradiation for a variety of foods like meat, spices and certain imported fruits.
