WASHINGTON (AP) - House Speaker John Boehner (BAY'-nur) and his leadership team say they need to review a Senate pact that would increase taxes on incomes exceeding $400,000 before deciding to schedule a vote on the measure or try to change it.

In a joint statement late Monday, House GOP leaders promised to keep their commitment to act on the measure if it passes the Senate. But they say they won't decide whether to accept the measure or to amend it and send it back to the Senate until lawmakers and their constituents have a chance to review the legislation.

Democrats would likely oppose any effort to amend the measure to make it more to GOP liking. That would likely make it almost impossible for Republicans to quickly rewrite the measure.

    Want revenue?
How about working on getting jobs created, that generates revenue. How about fixing the tax loopholes so those who pay nothing end up paying something and stop blaming the rich for all the woes.

    Out of Control Spending
Imagine you had a teenager to whom you gave an allowance every month and he not only squandered it every time, but also continually maxed out his credit cards. Would your solution be to give him even more money and/or secure him a credit-line increase? Or might you, outraged, cut up the credit cards and tell him he must live within his means?

Obama wants tax increases now and cuts later
Right! We've been through that before. Ronald Reagan learned this the hard way in the 1980's when he agreed to a budget deal that included three dollars in spending cuts for every dollar in tax increases. The taxes came first. The cuts never came at all.
