Lost 80s at 4: Donnie Iris plays that 'funky music'
Donnie Iris isn't exactly a household name in music but he does own a few hits spanning decades. While performing with the Jaggerz in 1970, he penned their No. 2 hit "The Rapper." Later in the 70s he joined Wild Cherry, best known for "Play That Funky Music." He then started a solo career that saw eleven studio albums released.
He continues to record and tour today. His biggest solo hit was 1980's "Ah! Leah!," it reached No. 29 on the Hot 100 and No. 19 on the Rock charts.
Donnie Iris is 70 years old today.
