Police search for missing baby of man who jumped off bridge

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (AP) — Police searched Monday for a 7-month-old boy who may have been with his father when the man jumped from a bridge into a river.
Crews worked for hours in and along the Connecticut River between Middletown and Portland, searching for the baby, Aaden Moreno. He has been missing since Sunday night.
The child’s father, 22-year-old Tony Moreno of Middletown, called someone at about 11:45 p.m., saying he would jump from the Arrigoni Bridge, police said. That person contacted police and said a baby could be heard in the background.
Middletown police spokeswoman Lt. Heather Desmond said the person was a family member, but authorities don’t know where he was when he called.
“It’s why we can’t narrow it down yet,” she said.
Police said they saw Moreno jump into the river but did not see a baby with him. It’s a 120-foot drop from the bridge, Desmond said.
Firefighters pulled Moreno from the water and took him to Hartford Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition. Desmond said he cannot be questioned because of his condition.
Police said they have been interviewing Moreno’s family to see if the baby is with them and that officers also looked at houses where the father may have been in case he left the child behind.
“We’re leaving no stone unturned,” Middletown Mayor Daniel Drew said.
A silver alert issued Monday morning describes Aaden as weighing 23 pounds and wearing a white shirt with black stripes with a Mickey Mouse picture and black pants. He has black hair and brown eyes.
