PHOENIX — Hardcore shoppers know the best time to shop often is after the holidays. We’re not just talking about Christmas or New Year’s. Holidays like the 4th of July can bring out great sales on a lot of things, from clothing to patio furniture, to of course, everything red, white and blue. If you didn’t get to shop before the fireworks, it’s not too late.
“Now is an amazing time to buy your patriotic decorations,” said Alicia Markham, one of KTAR’s Wallet Watchers and owner of DealsinAZ.com. “You can use them a lot of times during the year and right now they are up to 60 percent off and in the coming days will even go even lower.”
Typically, stores try to get rid of their excess 4th of July “must-haves” after the holiday, since the next big celebration isn’t until Labor Day.
That is, expect for sales in grilling equipment and indoor and outdoor décor.
“You can get a new American flag, accessories for the home and so much more,” added Markham.
4th of July sales go beyond clearance items. Often, big retailers — and even car dealerships — extend their holiday sales for up to a week after the actual holiday.
July is also a month when stores try to get rid of summer supplies in order to make room for fall holidays.
Target, for example, is having its “Black Friday in July” sale starting on July 8. Amazon is also gearing up for a big sale to celebrate its 20-year anniversary. “They promise more deals than you’ll find on Black Friday,” said Markham.
It’s all about space and marketing. How soon can stores stock their shelves up with the next holiday? The answer might be: as soon as possible. Markham recommends browsing clearance aisles and racks as stores get rid of summer merchandise to welcome Halloween décor.
