PHOENIX — Maricopa County shelters were full with animals in the
wake of the July Fourth holiday and its fireworks.
Maricopa County Animal Care and Control said its staff will work overtime to
keep the two shelters open an extra hour to help reunite pet owners and their
missing animals.
Spokeswoman Melissa Gable said only three of 232 stray dogs at the Phoenix
shelter had collars with ID tags that helped reunite pets and owners.
