Man shot, killed by police after opening fire near eastern Arizona temple

EAGAR, Ariz. — Authorities say a man who allegedly shot a woman and then a
police officer in eastern Arizona is dead.
The Apache County Sheriff’s Office said the incident started when the suspect
shot at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center in Eagar on Saturday
afternoon from his pickup truck.
Sheriff’s officials said the suspect hit a woman in the shoulder and then fired
at responding officers from several agencies.
An Eagar police officer was hit but has since been treated and released.
According to authorities, officers then pursued the suspect for several blocks
until he ran inside a home.
The armed suspect allegedly then ran out toward a deputy and officers shot him.
He was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
The injured woman’s condition remains unknown.
