Unemployment rate in Arizona drops to 6 percent

PHOENIX — Arizona’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for April was 6 percent, down two-tenths of a percentage point from March.
The national unemployment rate dropped one-tenth of a percentage point to 5.4 percent in April.
The state Department of Administration said Arizona’s economy gained 2,200 non-farm jobs last month.
Across Arizona’s economy, seven of the 11 sectors added jobs and four reported losses in April.
Analysts said professional and business services added 3,300 jobs with government adding 1,900 jobs and construction 1,300 jobs last month.
They said trade, transportation and utilities lost 4,200 jobs in April while manufacturing sectors shed 1,400 jobs.
