CHANDLER, Ariz. — Three people jumped out of a second-story apartment window to safety after a fire broke out early Wednesday morning.
The fire started in a downstairs apartment in a complex near Loop 202 and Dobson Road. No one was injured but at least three units were destroyed.
Six others, including a pregnant woman and her young child, were helped to safety by firefighters.
The fire broke out around 4 a.m.
Art Bennett lived in the unit where the fire started. His son and two of the boy’s friends made the leap to safety.
“I tossed the dog to them and I was getting ready to jump and the firefighter yelled at me, ‘What are you doing? I’ll get you a ladder.’ So I said OK,” Bennett said.
Jason Russo was one of the teens who jumped.
“The fire alarm was going off and smoke was rolling in. There was fire coming in a window so we found another window and started jumping. It was a trip. Crazy,” he said.
