Power transformer catches fire in suburban Phoenix

PHOENIX — A transformer at a power facility in the East Valley caught fire Friday morning,

Large black clouds of smoke filled the air around the Salt River Project’s Santan Generating Station in Gilbert.

The site is on Val Vista Drive near Warner Road.

Gilbert Fire responded and said it was believed electrical equipment was burning.

No other details were immediately available.
