PHOENIX — The city of Tempe is considering making it illegal for drivers to smoke while a child is in the car.
The agenda item was introduced for review during last week’s council meeting.
Police would not pull over a driver who was smoking, however, they would have to be stopped for another violation.
According to city documents, the ordinance “would serve to protect children from the harmful effects of tobacco smoke. …”
The city council could vote as early as next month.
