Hopes of a wet El Nino drying up in Arizona

PHOENIX — Initial forecasts show El Nino will have an underwhelming impact on Arizona’s weather this year.
There was hope the traditionally wet weather system may help alleviate a statewide drought, but Ken Waters with the National Weather Service said 2015’s El Nino will be a case of too little, too late.
“We really don’t see a lot of impact from this, unfortunately,” he said. “Not much of indication that this will provide much in the way of drought relief.”
Waters said last week’s storm heavy snow in northern Arizona and rain in the Valley was not caused by an El Nino-related storm.
El Nino dropped a lot of rain and snow in Arizona in 2010 and 1998.
