PHOENIX — Taxpayers spent more than $3.2 million on the Jodi Arias case.
The costs were revealed Thursday after a second jury failed to sentence Arias for the 2008 killing of her ex-boyfriend, Travis Alexander.
A Maricopa County spokesman said Arias’ defense spent about $3.1 million over the life of the trial, while Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery said the prosecution spent just $132,000.
It was unclear how much of the $3.2 million was footed by Maricopa County taxpayers alone and how much was passed on to the state.
Judge Sherry Stephens is expected to announce April 13 if Arias will be eligible for parole or spend the remainder of her life behind bars.
