The city of Phoenix continues to clean up and revitalize Grand Avenue, and according to the Phoenix Business Journal, a national planning award is in store.
The American Planning Association looked over hundreds of nominations for its project of the year, which is reportedly going to Arizona’s capital city. The award has not been officially announced yet, but Phoenix city officials are preparing to accept the honor on April 20 in Seattle.
The APA award acknowledges Phoenix’s citizen-driven planning effort and its rapid implementation.
Phoenix’s project is officially called the Grand Avenue Revitalization Plan.
Although Phoenix’s North Mountain Preserve Plan was recognized as a Landmark Planning Project in 2008, the Grand Avenue plan has earned the city its first award from the American Planning Association, the Phoenix Business Journal says.
