PHOENIX — Arizona’s Native American population is taking advantage of the Super Bowl to showcase their culture by hosting a festival in Scottsdale.
The American Indian Festival began Thursday at the Scottsdale Civic Center Mall.
“A lot of it is for the youths,” Ak-Chin Indian Community Chairman Louis Manuel, Jr. said. “A lot of things that go on are family-oriented and we always want to involve family.”
Manuel said attendees can meet tribal elders, sample Native American cuisines, such as fry bread and green chiles, and see colorful dances.
The festival runs through Saturday. Attendance is free.
