PHOENIX — The city of Phoenix avoided a potential transit strike Tuesday, reaching agreement between a bus worker’s union and its operators.
With the Super Bowl less than two weeks away, a strike would have interrupted some service in the West Valley, including Glendale, site of Super Bowl XLIX on Feb. 1.
A work stoppage would have affected 14 routes.
Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1433 and First Transit, Inc., agreed to a three-year deal.
Negotiations had been slightly contentious for months. The sides had been at the table trying to reach a deal since last summer.
Michael Cornelius with the Amalgamated Transit Union said that the voting will take place Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
Employees had been working without a contract since June. They rejected an offer last month.
