PHOENIX — Phoenix police have arrested a suspect in the murders of two young women over 20 years ago.
DNA evidence sent police to Bryan Miller late Tuesday.
He was taken into custody at his West Valley job in connection with the 1992 and 1993 killings and sexual assaults of Melanie Bernas and Angela Brosso.
Bernas, 17, died in 1992, Brosso, 22, died the next year. Both had disappeared while riding their bicycles. Their remains were later found near the canal in the area.
Police reopened the case in 2011 based on forensic evidence.
An anonymous tip to police in 1994 originally put Miller’s name in the case file, but he “fell under the radar and ended up getting married and moving to Washington State,” Sgt. Trent Crump said.
Authorities were combing Miller’s home, near Seventh Street and Peoria Avenue, where he lived with his teenage daughter.
