PHOENIX — A local artist is using her talents to help improve the look of a Phoenix neighborhood.
The Neighborhood Housing Services of Phoenix building at 14th Street and McDowell Road has a new look.
Muralist Kristine Kollasch won a contest to paint the side of the building. Blue skies, sunshine and some nice looking buildings now cover the exterior wall.
“A lot of the buildings in this mural incorporate some of the logos of equal housing opportunity … and talk about community and neighborhoods being a place to grow up,” Kollasch said.
The agency helps potential homeowners shop for home loans and teach them about hidden costs to owning homes.
“Wherever we go we want to make communities stronger, because the homeowners going in are more financially savvy,” said Patricia Garcia Duarte, president and CEO of the housing service.
