PHOENIX — Some states prefer classic costumes, others like trendy ensembles and a few states’ favorites are just plain random.
A new report by SumoCoupon, a discount-finding search engine, analyzed the top Google searches of Halloween costumes in each state and compiled them into a colorful map, featured on The Huffington Post.
Two super-heroine costumes tied for being the favorite of the most states: Katniss Everdeen of “The Hunger Games” and Black Widow of “The Avengers”, each with four states.
Arizona’s top costume search was a classic superhero character, Wolverine.
Two states, Virginia and New Jersey, followed popular culture with characters from Disney’s “Frozen” being their top pick, while many other states chose timeless variations such as doctors, pirates, cheerleaders and zombies.
Among the strangest favorites was the banana costume — a top pick for Minnesota, Maryland and Connecticut — as well as Washington’s pick, the spider-dog costume, which was likely inspired by the viral video featuring an arachnid-clad canine.
