GLENDALE, Ariz. — It was a different kind of labor for some officers in Glendale on Friday as they picked up rakes and weed wackers instead of criminals in a neighborhood near 59th and Northern avenues.
Officers from Glendale’s Foothills Patrol Squad along with the Glendale Police Department Foothills Community Action Team, Glendale Sanitation Department, Glendale Right of Way and Glendale Parks and Recreation met in the Thunderbird Estates neighborhood early Friday morning to perform landscaping on some of the overgrown vegetation in the neighborhood’s alleyways.
“It’s a lot of work. We’ll be out here for about eight hours,” said Glendale Police Sgt. Joe Jezulin.
The need to reduce the overgrown foliage in the historic neighborhood came after residents said they have seen an uptick in criminal activity in the are.
Lymon Perren lives in the neighborhood and said he’s experienced two break-ins.
