PHOENIX — Hurricane Odile may soon be history, but its remnants are spreading far across the country.
For those making travel plans to fly over the next few days, AAA’s Stephanie Dembrowski warned buyers to read the fine print.
“If you book with a travel agent or online, check for cancellation or rebooking policies and any itinerary changes,” she said. “You want to know what your options are if something has been cancelled.”
For some travelers, monsoon and hurricane season signal deals to be had. “You’re going to find the prices to places like the Caribbean and the Pacific are going to be a little cheaper.” But, Dembrowski admitted, “there is an inherit risk.”
As of Thursday, hurricane season air fares were as low as $200 and $225 one way to Oahu, Hawaii and Cancun, Mexico.
Dembrowski said take advantage of the deals, but on travel days,”keep an eye on local forecasts, both at your departure city and your destination. Even if the sun is shining bright across the country,” she warned things can quickly change when you’re up in the air.
If the desire for a deal still outweighs the fear of flying during storm season, Dembrowski recommended buying travel insurance.
