PHOENIX — A Phoenix suburb received more than one inch of rain in about an hour on Wednesday.
A week after Mesa, Ariz., was flooded, it was again inundated with water as Tropical Storm Odile moved through the area. A rain gauge at Falcon Field measured nearly two inches of rain had fallen since 6 a.m. A flash flood warning was issued just after noon for parts of east Mesa.
Odile was expected to soak the Valley through Thursday and bring the possibility of more widespread flooding. Multiple cities offered residents sand or sandbags to protect their homes.
Hurricanes that move through Mexico before striking Arizona have a huge impact on the state’s weather patterns. Two massive storms have moved through the state in the last week, a very rare event. The last storm broke the record for rainfall in a single day.
Despite all the rain, local reservoirs have not seen much of a boost.
