PHOENIX — The family of a man who was accidentally killed by a child at an Arizona gun range said in a television interview Friday they hoped the other family didn’t dwell on the tragedy.
Charles Vacca, 39, was showing a 9-year-old girl how to fire an Uzi this week in White Hills, Arizona, when she lost her grip on the submachine gun after the recoil.
The family said they feel sorry for the girl and her family, who live in New Jersey and were on vacation.
One of Vacca’s daughters, Elizabeth, told the morning show, “I wanted to make sure they didn’t spend a big portion of their life surrounding it around this one incident.”
Another daughter, Ashley, said, “We know it was a tragic accident.” She planned to write a letter to the family.
The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office said it would not file charges.
