Truck crashes into utility pole, suburban Phoenix neighborhood without power

PHOENIX — A West Valley neighborhood is without power Friday after a tow truck struck a power pole and knocked down several electrical lines, starting a small fire.
Firefighters evacuated eight homes near 59th Avenue and Bethany Home Road in Glendale because of the late-morning fire. At least 1,000 SRP customers were affected.
Temperatures were in the upper 80s by late morning. By 2:30 p.m. SRP’s online outage map reported that between 101-500 customers were still without power. Their services was expected to be restored by 7:30 p.m.
