PHOENIX -- Flags around Arizona will fly at half-staff until sundown Friday in honor of a Scottsdale, Ariz. soldier who was killed in Afghanistan, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer said in a press release.

Chief Warrant Officer 2 Joshua B. Silverman, 35, was killed in a helicopter crash while on a mission Tuesday in southern Afghanistan.

"Our eternal gratitude is with CW2 Silverman and his fellow fallen heroes whose lives were taken in the crash, and our deepest condolences are with the families and loved ones in mourning," Brewer said. "Their deaths are a solemn reminder of the daily dangers faced by our men and women in uniform, who selflessly serve and sacrifice to keep their neighbors safe and our nation free."

Flags will also be lowered to half-staff on the day of Silverman's internment.
