PHOENIX -- Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton has dropped the rainbow-colored gauntlet when it comes to defending Bisbee's decision to allow gay civil unions.

"If Mr. Horne is looking to sue somebody, he should look at Phoenix. I stand with Bisbee."

Stanton said he would direct the Phoenix City Council to stand by Bisbee during litigation should Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne choose to follow through with a lawsuit.

Stanton said he supports "full rights, including marriage equality, for same-sex partners," and he "looks forward to the U.S. Supreme Court's decision on marriage equality."
