PHOENIX -- A Surprise man accused of disciplining his teenage sons by forcing them to drink alcohol has been sentenced to three years' probation for child abuse.

Maricopa County prosecutors say 32-year-old Kristopher Harvey was sentenced Wednesday in a plea agreement.

Harvey was arrested last June 4 on suspicion of two counts of child abuse.

He told authorities that he was punishing his sons for sneaking alcohol by making them both drink three shots of hard liquor.

Harvey then threw his sons into a swimming pool and their cries for help alerted neighbors, who called police.

The boys were ages 12 and 13 at the time and visiting from California.

Harvey said he wanted to show them the effects of drinking irresponsibly and called the incident "the biggest mistake of my life."
