BLACK CANYON CITY, Ariz. -- Authorities chased a stolen car for nearly 20 miles before arresting a woman driver and her two passengers near Black Canyon City.

Phoenix police say the yellow coupe diverted off Interstate 17 to avoid spike strips and took the Bumblebee exit Wednesday afternoon.

The car traveled along a two-lane dirt road until it slid off a dirt road.

The woman driver then exited the vehicle, followed by a male passenger and a female passenger. They were ordered to the ground as police handcuffed them.

Police didn't immediately release the names and ages of the suspects or their hometowns.

Police said the car was originally stolen around 4 p.m. near 19th Avenue and Mountain View. It was reported stolen on Tuesday in Tempe.

They say the stolen car hit several other vehicles before getting onto I-17 and heading north out of the Phoenix area.

"I'm being told between four and six vehicles," "Fortunately these were sideswipes...we had some side damage, mirror damage, things of that nature."

Police say there was no report of any injuries.

It is unknown why the suspects fled.

KTAR's Martha Maurer contributed to this report.

Goin' out on a limb here, but maybe they fled because they guilty? I aint college educated on anything, but seems like a good guess considering most innocent people do not run from the cops.

wow....what a profound statement. Perhaps one should also ask "Why did the police pursue"

because the tank was FULL. The gas was worth more than the vehicle.
