AGUILA -- Authorities say a man whose truck was stolen in northwestern Maricopa County is accused of firing warning gun shots from a distance at sheriff's deputies who had found the vehicle.

Maricopa County Sheriff's Office spokesman Joaquin Enriquez says the deputies weren't injured and didn't return fire.

Enriquez says the truck's owner was told to back off and let deputies handle the search in the desert near the community of Aguila early Sunday morning, but instead he drove around with two others looking for the truck.

Enriquez says the truck's owner initially denied involvement in the shooting and said he saw people running from the truck.

A helicopter and a SWAT team were then called to the area.

Enriquez says the truck's owner eventually admitted to firing the shots.
