One person was killed Friday in a major crash on the southbound Loop 303.

Three children and one adult were severely injured in the accident, though the age of the deceased is unclear.

According to Arizona Department of Public Safety officials, a man was taken to a hospital after the accident and later died. His name wasn't immediately released.

DPS says a helicopter transported a woman with life-threatening injuries to a Phoenix hospital.

Three vehicles were involved in the accident.

Emergency crews were on the scene.

The freeway was closed between Greenway and Bell after the crash. It was reopened about 6:15 p.m.
