PHOENIX -- A Phoenix group said it doesn't want Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's volunteer posse to patrol its kids' schools in the Roosevelt School District.

The school board met Tuesday night to talk about a resolution that would let Arpaio know his posse members aren't welcome at the district's 20 schools.

But Arpaio told KPHO-TV that those schools fall within his jurisdiction, so he can do what he wants.

Arpaio recently launched a program for his volunteer armed posse members to patrol schools in unincorporated parts of Maricopa County.

The Rise of South Phoenix group said parents and students fear a patrol will turn into an immigration raid.

But Arpaio said the group is needlessly upset because the posse doesn't patrol schools in the Roosevelt district.

Look at the locations and demograhics and you will know why they don't want MCSO around.

aspires to bigger things. He wants the District 8 City Council seat. Like Republicans across the country, he wants to get his name in circulation among the Hispanic electorate. Picking on Arpaio is a sure fire way to get ink. While the sentiments expressed are correct, it is purely his political initiative.

The surprising part of this is
the fact it is only 20 schools. Based on the amount of negative press this guy gets, I would have expected many more schools to turn him down, whether in South Phoenix or not.

the parents have chosen politics over the safety of their own children. but being here illegally and raising their kids in that environment only teaches them that wrong is right. so what else can we expect?

    These are the same people....
who will complain that MCSO didn't respond fast enough when something happens at these schools, and the reason they will give for the slow response will be because of race.

"and the reason they will give for the
slow response will be because of race." That's the power of the magic hyphen as in Mexican-American, Asian-American, etc. It allows the user to switch nationalities based on the particular needs or situation to give the user a more favorable stance. But it only works if the word before the hyphen is something other than American. We should all start to use the hyphen to reap the benefits it can provide. I'm going to start referring to myself as Finnish-American to take advantage of these benefits.

    Wow Micho, you went there,
that's just creepy. I wonder what kind of dirt could be dug up on other law inforcement agencies if they were to appear to focus there attention on a particular race/nationality?

    US Citizen has it right
But this is just a small episode of leftist MO . . . take an existing right and abuse it into the ground until you convince the simple minded while draining the system of money and resources to the extent that remaining opposition is defeated. It has worked well over the last 4 years on issues of healthcare, immigration, Constitutional rights, energy use, entitlements, national debt . . . . A brilliant tactic that is accomplishing the takedown to a tee.
