Bad weather causes stop in search for missing hiker
APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. -- A search has been suspended in the Superstition Mountains for a hiker who was reported missing Tuesday evening after she failed to appear at a trailhead.
Weather forced a halt to the search.
The Pinal County sheriff's office said 51-year-old Robin Bird also was the subject of a December 2012 search in the Superstitions.
On that occasion, Byrd said she was looking for the fabled Lost Duchman's gold mine when she got lost.
The sheriff's office said three other hikers who were located early Wednesday evening after being reported missing Tuesday evening said they'd encountered Byrd Tuesday afternoon.
According to the sheriff's office, those hikers got lost after Byrd gave them the wrong direction to return to the trailhead parking lot.
