PHOENIX -- An Arizona lawmaker said she will not advance a bill to extend driver's licenses to immigrants granted work permits by President Barack Obama because his order expanding immigrant rights was unconstitutional.

House Transportation Committee Chairwoman Karen Fann said the bill endorsed by immigration reform proponents is not ready for a vote until federal courts rule on Obama's immigration changes.

Fann said Obama acted unconstitutionally by bypassing Congress and announcing in July that people brought to the U.S. before they turned 16 could apply for work permits and Social Security numbers.

Legislation sponsored by Democratic Rep. Catherine Miranda would allow immigrants with work permits to legally drive in Arizona. The Transportation Committee heard from proponents of the bill Thursday.

Gov. Jan Brewer does not support driver's licenses for these youths.

Republicans want the hispanic vote yet their leaders in AZ keep throwing speed bumps, stop signs, and anything to prevent any kind of benefits for them. Its really hard to support a political party who has thrived itself so much by adopting ideologies for the last decade that incriminate the families of those who you want the vote from.

Ms. Fann has a hard time.....
like many Arizona legislators, seeing the forest for the trees - zeroing in on one small part of the bigger picture (hoping her stand might get her a few extra votes down the road), rather than accepting the inevitable. Only time will tell - these are the same folks who told us right up to election eve that Romney would win.

    Is she correct that proper
procedures and protocols were not followed? If so, what's the problem with following the proper procedures? Or is this just more of the entitlement mentality that the rules don't apply to me, I expect and demand Carte blanche. Hispanic immigrants, Americas whining, demanding 3 year old in need of a diaper change.

    Rapture, keep in mind that
Arizona is only concerned with preventing benefits for those that are here illegally and not contributing to, but draining the systems resources. Your post makes it sound like the State has a hard on for the entire Hispanic population.

can't vote. Therefore they are not part of "the hispanic vote". The Republicans are not throwing "speed bumps", "stop signs" or anything else to stop any kind of benifits for hispanic voters, those are just just speed bumps, roadblocks and stop signs for ILLEGAL VOTERS.
