First lady invites 2 Arizonans to State of the Union
PHOENIX -- The White House said first lady Michelle Obama's guests for the State of the Union address Tuesday evening include two Arizonans: Avondale Mayor Marie Lopez Rogers and Haile Thomas, 12, of Tucson.
The White House said Rogers grew up in migrant farm camps and picked cotton alongside her parents in fields in the Phoenix suburb where she's now mayor.
Thomas is co-founder of the nonprofit Healthy Girl Adventure's Clubthat works to improve health and wellness of young people.
The pre-teen dined at the White House last year as a guest of the first lady.
