Phoenix kicks off Phoenix Chinese Week
PHOENIX -- A special ceremony was held Monday at Phoenix City Hall to launch Phoenix Chinese Week.
"This is our 23rd year to celebrate the Chinese New Year," said Eva Li, Vice President of Phoenix Chinese Week.
The Phoenix Chinese Committee, in cooperation with the City of Phoenix and Phoenix Sister Cities, organized the week-long event, highlighted by a three-day culture and food festival at the Chinese Cultural Center, located near the Loop 202 and 44th Street.
The grand-opening ceremony is Friday, Feb. 8 at noon.
Some fun facts about this celebration:
Year of the Snake begins on Feb. 10.
The snake is the animal totem for the year 4711.
Some say the snake is a good omen, predicting that families will not starve.
