Arthur Douglas Harmon. (Phoenix Police Department)

PHOENIX -- Police have confirmed that a body found Thursday at the Mesa Riverview shopping center is that of suspected Phoenix shooter Arthur Douglas Harmon.

The body was found early Thursday morning, along with a rental car that the suspect had been driving. Phoenix Sgt. Steve Martos said a gunshot wound to the body appeared to be self-inflicted.

Mesa police spokesman Anthony Landato said a handgun was found at the scene.

Harmon, 70, is the chief suspect in a Wednesday shooting spree that left one man dead and five other people injured at 16th Street and Glendale Avenue.

A landscaper found the body in a parking lot at the center, near Loop 202 and Dobson Road.

Police conducted a search of Harmon's north Phoenix home at 28th Street and Acoma Drive after the shooting and learned he had left in a rented white Kia Optima. The license plate of that car matched that of the car found at Riverview.

No other information was immediately available.

And what was with the standoff?
Why would his family bar police from the house, wasting the PD's time and resources thinking he was in there? They are lucky he didn't cause any more mayhem while on the loose...

    gun control
every one of Obama's and gun control folks plans would not have prevented this. He bought the gun decades ago, legally, no history of mental illness, no criminal background, not assault weapon, didnt have a clip with over 10 rounds. Sad part is they will use this against us responsible gun owners. dont pass a bill emotionally pass it with facts

    blame the media
I'm starting to think that the media needs to be looked at. Their over coverage of the shooting events may put thoughts into a weak minded person of, "Hey, I can do that". When you have months of coverage, and yesterday's coverage was an example of way too much. When I saw a reporter trying to organize her thoughts while asking questions to people LIVE, I turned the channel. I'm not one of the voyeristic facebook/tweeter generation.

I still find how convent this shooting was
for Mark Kellys speech. Also find it convent how after Illinois was forced to in-act a CCW law the shooting happens in Connecticut. I just find it so convent that all these horrible things happen right as the Dems push their agenda upon us.That being said. Its a horrible act that was done both here and CT.I wish it never happened but it did.Where were the Legal CCW carriers during this Phoenix shooting Banned by the workplace?.Bet there would have been a better outcome if that wasn't true.I wish people would realize that banning weapons will never do anything. The bad guys will always get them.

should shut his mouth. After reading yahoo news the last week or two, I would not be surprised if many of the other current "shooting stories" were concocted by that bunch of jerks in DC to grab law abiding citizens' guns. Just a thought. What once was a local news item now has become national hype.
