The receipt and the pastor's message is shown. (Reddit photo)

A Texas pastor has spoken out after she was lambasted on the Internet for supposedly failing to leave a server a tip and instead leaving a condescending message.

According to MSNBC, the customer, who identified herself as a pastor, wrote "I give God 10%, Why do you get 18?" as well as putting a zero in the tip space.

The customer was supposedly part of a party of 20 people -- something she denies -- that split the check in an attempt to avoid paying the 18 percent gratuity fee, regardless of the fact that the same person payed all of the tabs.

She took her message to the airwaves and said she actually left a second cash tip and is using the viral nature of the story to spread the gospel.

    Does the pastor realize...
That God or his church gets 10% of his income, but the server gets just 18% of the total bill? Unless this pastor's income is only about $35 a year... Also, the server did get a $6.29, if you read the receipt it says Adtl (additional tip) that would be added onto the automatic gratuity for having a large party. Like this story says the customers were trying to avoid the automatic 18% gratuity, they did not realize that they were going to get it anyway. This pastor was probably angry that the plan to avoid the automatic tip failed, thus the message.

The title of this story is false.
The Pastor did tip the server, he just did not give the server an additional tip, the tip he scribbled out is $6.29. The $6.29 would be in the $34.93 total, which he wrote in the total, so he would have to pay it. See my other comment for further explanation.

it's all in the definition, of tip and how the cheap owners show it up front! and they all do the same thing! The whole thing is! If owners can get you to pay more, They can pay less to the people they hire! Da!

    Figures,
churches have been fleecing their parishioners and parishioners children for years, this place does it and they call foul. Typical organized religion thinking.

    Don't you guys read scripture?
It doesn't matter whether he paid the tip or not, he made a rude and sarcastic remark to a person in a lower-income job. I don't remember Jesus saying anything about talking down to people who make a commission-based salary.

    All they had was coffee.
And the establishment demands an 18% tip? No way.
