PHOENIX -- Elected Arizona officials who advocate for immigration reform are hailing a proposal by eight U.S. senators to overhaul the current system while questioning some of the proposal's provisions.

U.S. Rep. Raul Grijalva said Monday's proposal by Arizona Sens. John McCain and Jeff Flake and four others puts ``the wind at the back'' of those seeking comprehensive immigration reform. But he questions the proposal's emphasis on securing the border and enforcement.

The Tucson Democrat said at a state Capitol press conference that the proposal gives only provisional visas to illegal immigrants until the border is deemed secure. He says border governors get too much power to determine when that is met.

Others called the proposal ``a good day for America.''

President Barack Obama releases his immigration reform proposal Tuesday.

``I am pleased that there is expressed recognition of what we have been saying in Arizona: immigration reform will not succeed unless and until we have achieved effective border security,'' Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer said in a statement.

``In the weeks ahead, I will review the specific details of this immigration plan when proposed in actual legislation,'' Brewer added. ``In the meantime, I'll be speaking with Arizona ranchers, business leaders and other residents of the border region as well as law enforcement. I will continue to talk with those on the front lines and I will make sure their voices are heard.''

    GET THE BORDER CLOSED
Unlawful Representatives that think they speak for the people need to go. They are nothing but squatters stealing from the rest of us that have paid incomes taxes for years into this system and now you want to hand them a free lunch. Reagan did this once and you all learned nothing from it. McCain you don't speak for us you didn't nothing to change the conditions on the border the whole time you have been in office. Limits need placed on all of you that serve and not a lifetime of living off of us. The Keating Five will be your legacy.

Obama has done better at border security
than any of his predecessors. "...the U.S. spends roughly $18 billion on federal immigration enforcement, more than it spends on all other law enforcement efforts combined. Nearly all of the border security benchmarks set by Republicans during the 2007 immigration debate have been surpassed. Meanwhile, 2012 saw record level of deportations, even as the Pew Center reports that illegal immigration has fallen to "net zero."Even so, haters will continue to act like he's been sitting on his hands.

    The bad economy
has done better for people crossing the border and coming here illegally. I guess MICHO IS CORRECT. Obama's continued pathetic economic plan and the millions of legal citizens out of the unemployment system that are not counted into the actual unemployment numbers, means there are no jobs for legal and illegals so why would the illegals come here. Just look at the correlation between high unemployment numbers and dropping numbers of illegals crossing the border (Pew Center's "net zero") over the last 10 years.

    But just remember
that border security and deportation are two different things and certain people forget that fact. Some people look at deportation numbers as a win, the other look at Eric Holders Fast and Furious as a problem, the drug smuggling as a problem, countless killed in car wrecks who where smuggled into the country illegally as a problem, countless killed crossing the desert as a problem.

    cont.
Countless held for more money or killed by the coyotes bringing them here as a problem, terrorist materials found in the desert where illegals cross the border as a problem and so on as a problem. While I look at all of these examples as as being a win for border security and immigration.
