Valley immigrant rights group to attend Obama's Vegas speech

PHOENIX -- President Barack Obama is expected to lay out his vision on immigration reform Tuesday in Las Vegas, and nearly a dozen members from a Valley immigrants' rights group will be in attendance.

"We want to send a message to the president that we believe there needs to be comprehensive immigration reform that does include a pathway to citizenship," said Otoniel Navarette with Promise Arizona.

Navarette hopes lawmakers will join forces to come up with a strategic plan to help the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the U.S. today.

"They are embedded in the fabric of our communities," he said. "We really need to treat them like human beings and give them a path to citizenship, a pass to work legally and the opportunity to get educated."
