The Waste Management Phoenix Open announced Wednesday that former Olympian Michael Phelps plans to play in the tournament's pro-am on Jan. 30.

"He's really embraced the game of golf," said tournament director Tom Altieri. "You'll see him on the Golf Channel quite a bit and he has noticed what a great crowd we have and what a great environment out here and I think he wants to be apart of it."

Phelps will join former Chicago Bears quarterback Jim McMahon, NASCAR driver Darryl Waltrip and NBA legend Julius Erving, among others.
